Some of the people who helped pave the way for change during the Civil Rights Movement and advocated alongside greats like Dr Martin Luther King Jr. were white allies. Know your power.

Effecting change, no matter how small, can often feel overwhelming.

You can often feel frozen by fear into not taking action with anti-racism work.

I get it. It is uncomfortable.

If it wasn’t, we would be further forward with racial justice by now.

You often feel stuck by fear.

Fear of saying the wrong thing and simply not knowing enough.

Fear of causing offence.

Fear of getting it wrong.

These fears all have one thing in common: They lead to inaction and inaction leads to complicity and complicity causes harm. So to help, after a lot of research and observing human behaviour, I developed this online anti-racism academy.

After a decade working in mental health and five years working in inclusion, I used my expertise in these sectors and my own experience to curate an anti-racism academy that first launched in BETA (test) mode in December 2018. It has consistently been described as life changing ever since. The summer of 2020 changed our worlds and racial injustice forever and so birthed a new and updated version.

Over winter 2020 I used 2 years of behavioural research from the BETA mode, to update and refine the content and respond to real user insights and invested in improving and producing new content to enhance your educational journey, using formulas that actually have results.

Turn everything you know about racism on its head and be part of powerful change.

“Nova, You are a phenomenal trainer - the knowledge, language, method of sharing information, the ability to hold space safely but firmly - all of this has helped me stay rooted in this journey. And even though I’m at the end, I feel like I’m at the beginning. Like I’m just getting started on this learning and journey. I feel scared still, but I’m going to do it anyway. Because you’ve been able to help me understand *why* I must. And not through fear of getting it wrong or because it’ll make me a good person. Or because you’ve ‘told me to’. But because I’m a human being, and this is non-negotiable in order to really, truly, embody what it is to be human and to be human in *community*.”

Denise, Domestic abuse charity

What students are saying…

“How do we unlearn what society has taught us? How do we face into truth that we’ve ignored for so long?

These were the questions that I was asking myself loudly since the fateful events in America, May 2020. I knew I couldn’t do it alone and I knew I needed to make sure my journey didn’t become white-washed again, or filled with excuses. I stumbled upon Nova’s course via social media and after reading the introduction to it, it was exactly what I was looking for. I needed a guide, who could help challenge me, provide perspectives and highlight what should have been obvious, all whilst recognising how difficult it is to unpick societal influences within your mind-set and the plethora of emotions that brings.

Nova’s course is so accessible. The video format (with other options to suit the learner) really helps me engage with the content, with Nova, and feel like I’m not alone on the journey. The messages within each module open my eyes further, every time. I’ll be honest, the introspection is tough BUT necessary and bit by bit, I feel like I’m growing as a person and I’m realising my individual growth on anti-racism can have such a large ripple effect if I want it to. I’m privileged that my day-to-day professional role means I can use what I’m unlearning in the workplace and start to affect change, agitate when needed and inspire others.

If you aren’t mentally and emotionally ready for this change though, you’ll just do lip-service again and then it’s a waste of time. You need to be ready to roll the sleeves up and avoid the ‘easy’ route out. Much like when someone has done a one-off course on unconscious bias and think they’ve fixed the problem. If you can accept that for the greater good of ALL humankind, there are many people that need to go along this journey, yourself included, then don’t underestimate how inspiring you will be to others and how necessary that is…and feel lucky that you have Nova as a compassionate guide to navigate through.”

Gillian - D&I Champion - Sainsbury’s Tech

“This work. Doing anti-racism work with Nova is fundamentally changing me. And as a consequence the people in my life too. Never underestimate the ripple effects – you will never know the full impact of your influence, but I can see it – just as a result of the effect Nova’s course has had on my life…and I am just one! Her work is reaching far and wide and making a profound difference in our world!”

Natalie, Educational Psychologist.

“I have sat down a number of times to write about your anti-racism course and the impact and I have no words. Words cannot explain the way this work has been part of a shift back to the essence of my being, of the I am and all that life shares beyond form. The process has been intense, but I am in awe of it. The healing is real and the layers are mind blowing. Thank you for everything”

Amy, senior school Teacher

“Thinking I didn’t need the leadership of a black person, especially a black woman woman and could do anti-racism work alone is audacious I thought I was in a place where I didn’t need focus led anti-racism training or guided learning. I was very very wrong”

Frankie, Writer and Coach

“I work within the Domestic Abuse sector. I thought I already did 'enough'. But I don't. And during this course I have started having more active conversations within my programme - I've raised it with my director, pushed it up to the CEO to talk about how we as a whole charity that supports 'everyone' , how are we being anti-racist, how are our actions matching our words. How are we supporting black women who are survivors of abuse, that is acknowledging the intersection of racism within it. I've been able to make sure that intersectionality is now in our Domestic Abuse training package to external professionals (i.e Police, private companies, charities) so that acknowledging bias, talking about racism, is a non negotiable part of our approach to teaching professionals about domestic abuse”

Denise, student

It IS for people who feel they don't know enough but have some basic knowledge of anti-racism, and those who have experience and want to take a deeper dive from a British lens. This course is for those who already recognise that racism exists beyond an overt act of hate and want to do something about it, but often feel frightened of saying the wrong thing and don’t really know where to start. Or do, but don’t feel confident in tackling and recognising everyday racism. It is also for people who often experience burnout in their activism, feel ineffective in challenging racism (especially at home or in the workplace) and / or don't know how to make consistent, sustainable tangible change.
