Historically - Black women - specifically Black women with lineage lost to slavery, have had no autonomy over their words, ideas or even their bodies. For too long Black women have been conditioned to overwork and are often extracted from. To be all things to all people from family to work colleagues - folks have been conditioned to see us as everyone’s mamie, to being the go to strong person, the caretaker for others at the expense of self. It’s enough.
Boundaries are detrimental in maintaining our mental health and for building autonomy and healthier relationships with others and first and foremost, yourself. I learned the hard way, so you don’t have to.
